A large Medical Device Company
Role: Data Center Engineer Project Duration: August 2006 – March 2007

I was an engineer on a team of three that virtually moved a data center across the United States. Initially, at the target location we started with an empty data center and procured the necessary heating/cooling, power, racks, and cabling to support the servers and their storage equipment.

• Responsible for producing high-level and low-level design documentation of the data center
• Responsible for asset tracking and management for 18M dollars worth of inventory
• Initial point of contact for Accenture team for procurement issues and returns
• Co-managed IP addressing scheme for all devices residing in the data center
• Responsible for hardware layout and all physical cabling between servers, network gear, and storage equipment
• Produced weekly status reports and executive summaries for distribution to management team
• Coordinated level one support with the network team to resolve issues once hand-offs to the server teams began

A State Government
Role: Assistant Agency Move Coordinator Project Duration: February 2006 – June 2006

I helped move the largest state agency’s computer and network infrastructure to the newly built state data center. This state agency had more than 150 servers that needed to be moved into the data center.

Main responsibilities included:
• Inventory Validation – This process included matching physical equipment with the agency's reported hardware inventory, ensuring that the data is correct, labeling equipment if necessary, and documenting the rack position and network connections of the system.
• Move Planning Data Gathering - This process involved meeting with agency personnel to discuss relevant data regarding the moves of their systems. The information collected - including contacts, backup and contingency plans, shutdown/startup procedures, test plans, storage requirements, SDC readiness requirements, and change management requirements - was used to create documentation that is contained in wave binders. Additional data gathered was used to create an hour-by-hour move plan.
• Move Planning Documentation - I was responsible for creating the move binders and the hour-by-hour plans for agency moves.
• Oversight of Move Execution - This process is the day-of-move coordination required to assist agency personnel with the physical relocation of servers to the SDC. Coordination tasks include ensuring that all power and network provisioning tasks are completed, scheduling and conducting of go / no go meetings, assisting communication between various move personnel, ensuring placement of the servers into the proper rack positions, ensuring that an asset tag is affixed to each server, managing the move against the established timeline, and proper escalation of issues.
• Full Move Coordinator Responsibilities – Supervisor went on leave for three weeks to get married. During this time I successfully managed and executed the moves of some of the state’s most critical servers. Recognized for my outstanding performance during this time.

A large marketing information company
Role: Technical Architect Project Duration: November 2005 – Jan 2006

I helped convert an existing application to be suitable for manufacturing clients.
• Responsible for assembly testing and management of different environments (development, staging, and production)
• Performed source code migrations when necessary to promote / demote code
• Configured PVCS to manage development
• Wrote detailed design documents for application
• Developed UNIX scripts to automate migrations and assembly testing
