• Installed an extension of the existing PBX at a new site, selecting the most cost effective solution, saving the company hundreds of thousands in new equipment and line costs.
• Reviewed existing Frame Relay invoices finding a $46 thousand-dollar credit missed over several months. Had the credit applied and future bills changed to reflect correct pricing, saving $60 thousand-dollars annually.
• Implemented a 5 year, long distance carrier contract saving the company over $300 thousand-dollars annually.
• Implemented a single cellular provider policy saving the company 40% of current cellular costs.
• Planned, selected, and implemented the installation of E911 equipment and software to bring the corporation into compliance with current laws. Also increasing safety at each location with security notification of a 911 call.
• Directed telecommunications over multiple locations, including PBX management, voice and data circuit operations, and infrastructure.


URBAN RETAIL PROPERTIES, Chicago, Illinois 1996–1999

Manager, IT Infrastructure
• Managed the installation of a new $10 million-dollar mainframe business system. Including hardware and software installations in the home office and in 90 retail properties around the country. Positioned the company on an easily accessible, Internet based business system.
• Planned and managed the consolidation of Information Systems Operations from two separate rooms to one. Reduced the overall footprint by 2/3rds, saved the company annual maintenance costs and returned space to rent.
• Directed Information Systems operations and infrastructure, including desktop services, mainframe operations, LAN operations, Internet operations, and phone systems.
• Maintained and decommissioned an existing and aging mainframe system through a two year conversion process that included resource reallocation, hardware maintenance, and system monitoring for proactive trouble shooting. Reconstructed a large database and the shifting of several others to maintain system operation. Redesigned and reallocated system jobs and resources, decreasing processing times and increasing throughput by 50%.
• Managed the installation of Lotus Domino Mail and Database system installations in the home office and in 90 retail properties around the country. Replaced the company's limited and outdated mail system with leading edge technology.


MATERIAL SERVICE CORPORATION, Chicago, Illinois 1983–1996

Assistant Manager, Technical Support
• Reinstated operations at downtown and remote locations from a blacked-out building during the Chicago Flood. This included temporary phone service; power generation; redistribution of information systems, personnel, and equipment while maintaining a safe work environment. Having systems back on-line within 2 days saved 2-3 weeks worth of lost orders and revenues.
• Trained staff in the operation and trouble shooting of telecommunications equipment. This reduced the time to respond to, and correct, a trouble call by 50%.
• Managed technical support operations for all Information Systems of Material Service and its divisions.
• Designed, selected, and installed the telecommunications system. System improved yard efficiency by allowing direct access to computer data at the remote locations.
• Planned and installed annual computer upgrades and 5 new computer room installations. The most complex of these was the move of Material Service to new offices across town. This involved not only designing and installing new computer room facilities, but also designing and installing new corporate office computer access methods (e.g. office wiring, alternative access through the phone switch, out-bound and in-bound modem pools, etc.). This move was accomplished over one weekend, within plan and while maintaining scheduled operations.


CHICAGO STOCK EXCHANGE, Chicago, Illinois 1981 – 1983

Supervisor, Floor Systems
• Supervised the design and installation of the first automated floor trading systems at Midwest Stock Exchange. System allowed trades of less than 100 shares to be routed and traded automatically by the correct seller, saved the exchange at least $50 thousand-dollars annually in labor costs and increased revenues from the extra trades performed.
• Management of design, implementation, and operation of systems used on the trading floor, both hardware and software.
• Instrumental in the design and implementation of a customer telecommunications interface. This allowed outside brokers access to the trading floor through remote terminals, routing their orders and trades to the correct stock specialist. This ability attracted two additional brokerage firms to the exchange the first year of installation and more the following years.
