Job Purpose:
The Level II Digital Engineer will be required to lead in the design, development, and release of digital hardware and firmware in the support of existing and new products in the area of embedded avionic systems. A qualifying candidate should have familiarity with embedded software development to the degree necessary to test and debug developing hardware. Each candidate will be required to work with a significant amount of independence, while taking minimal direction from higher level engineers and the Director of Engineering. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
Design of electronic circuitry, utilizing sound engineering practices and with the aid of OrCad schematic capture and PC Board layout software.
Design of FPGA architectures including complete System-On-Chip platforms as well as custom IP components using HDL and supplier specific tools.
Participate in full development life-cycle including requirements gathering and analysis, specification and design, prototyping, software integration, production release and testing.
Interface with others personnel including, but not limited to:
PC Board layout personnel
Component vendors
Production assembly personnel
Production test personnel
Quality personnel
Generation of peripheral documentation, as required , to support the design and verification of completed design including, but not limited to schematics and Wiring Diagrams, Bills of Materials, Development Test Procedures and Reports, Production Test Procedures, Component Specifications.
Create specifications and design of test equipment to be used in the production environment as part of the manufacturing process.
Maintain technical knowledge of Company products.
Complete moderately complex tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.
May travel, as required, to accommodate above duties.
Commitment to comply with the requirements of Avionicas Quality System Manual.
Continual improvement of the quality management systems effectiveness.
Knowledge and Skill Requirement:
B.S.E.E., B.S.C.E., or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4+ years experience in the design, implementation, and support of embedded systems.
Minimum 4+ years of digital circuit implementation using FPGAs and microprocessors.
Experience with Altera NIOS II.
Experience with Quartus II and SOPC builder tools.
Working knowledge of standard communication busses including USB, PCI, PCI Express, I2C, SPI, LVDS, RS232, Ethernet.
Knowledge of digital synthesis and place and route: non-overlapping clocks and clock trees, memory and peripheral circuits, I/O, adders, and multipliers is required.
Experience with software development languages including assembly, C, and C++.
Familiarity with laboratory measurement equipment including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, voltage meters, etc.
Working knowledge of and ability to create and navigate through detailed technical standards/specifications and other technical documents.
Ability to work smoothly with other software/hardware engineers in a small group.
Ability to write complete specifications for collaboration with outside contractors.
Must be self motivated and very creative with excellent communications and writing skills
Must be able to complete moderately complex tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.
RECOMMENDED:
Working knowledge of IP based data networks and configurations.
Working knowledge of 802.11 a/b/g wireless technologies.
