A question for you: Is it possible for a high-revenue company that has two feet solidly planted in success to maintain the buzz, fun, and energy of start-up? Here's a hint: the answer is -- believe it or not -- yes.
Our Company, the Venn-diagram overlap of blistering achievement and great company culture, is seeking a Systems Engineer. This is the perfect opportunity for a systems administrator who loves the idea of working closely with development and treating systems as huge 'applications.'
So, if you're the Isaac Newton of intelligent infrastructure and live for building extremely reliable systems and designing clean, efficient web application programs, read on and apply!
What You'll Be Doing:
As a member of our Operations Team, you'll be taking a DevOps approach to deployment automation, cloud and bare-metal infrastructure management, systems scalability, self-healing systems, and web services infrastructure. You'll execute masterfully with open-source tools like Chef, HAProxy, Capistrano, Nginx, Resque, Redis, and Memcached. Basically, you'll play an undeniably important part in Our Company's engineering roadmap as you build robust, scalable and efficient systems architectures.
Responsibilities:
* Help manage production Unix/Linux hosts in the cloud and on bare-metal
* Collaborate with engineering groups to implement failover, redundancy, and scaling
* Embrace your love of collaboration by pair programming on a regular basis
* Participate in stand-ups, retrospectives, and the occasional ping-pong game
* Help oversee and automate MySQL, Riak, and Mongo data stores
* Lend a hand in driving and assisting with frequent web application deployments
* Participate in on-call, emergency-response rotation for production systems
Requirements:
* Proficiency with Solaris, Linux and other *nix variants
* Knowledge of Chef, Capistrano, HAProxy, Nginx, MySQL and similar tools
* Understanding of SQL and data modeling for scalability and performance
* Love of agile development philosophy (particularly pairing), test-driven development, and short iterations
* Excited about participation in open-source culture
* Uncanny ability to 'pick the right tool for the job'
* Ability to clearly articulate design ideas while being receptive to constructive criticism
* Open, friendly, and collaborative attitude towards software developers and deployment
Bonus Skills:
* No stranger to a high-traffic Rails application
* Expert automation skills with Ruby (especially Chef) and *nix shell preferred
* Familiarity with Git version control system
* Knowledge of Solr, Redis, Riak and other NoSQL storage engines
The Benefits You'll Get:
As part of the Our family, you'll be entitled to a great list of benefits including (but not limited to!) medical, dental, vision, 401k, life insurance, emergency travel assistance, flex time, and continuing education stipends. Oh, and let's not forget the snack wall and the staggering employee discount!
