This is a senior level engineering role on the Division Network Infrastructure team. The Sr. Network Engineer will play a lead role in the design and expansion of Comcast’s optical and IP transport networks. This technical lead will identify best practices to develop standards across the Northeast Division. This role will spend significant time working with our Regions ensuring that Divisional and National requirements are communicated and understood.

In addition to supporting Comcast’s next generation IP transport networks the Sr. Network Engineer will be a Divisional lead supporting our Legacy SONET and ATM systems. They will collaborate with the National and Regional engineers to design cost effective solutions to migrate services from legacy platforms while minimizing impact to our commercial customers.

This position will be responsible for creating the framework and standards that will allow the efficient and successfully introduction of new devices onto the Comcast network. This role will also be responsible for pre-deployment testing and Division level certification of IP and Transport related devices. This job will involve significant vendor level interaction, product road mapping, feature requests and bug identification.

The Network Infrastructure team is also responsible for capacity forecasting for all products on Comcast’s next generation IP transport networks. The capacity cycle includes identifying network requirements for business-as-usual growth and new product launches as well as subsequent high level design, financial analysis and strategic oversight.


DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS

Architect network solutions to meet the needs of various Comcast lines of business including our legacy SONET and ATM commercial services infrastructure. Work at length with Project Management group to establish technical process flow for new initiatives. This work will include major project timelines and ROI cost models as well as the creation of high-level designs by collaborating with other engineering departments. Act as technical lead for communications of new products and services to the Regions
Create local design guidelines and configuration templates that will be used as the Divisional standard. Mentoring the XOC and Regional Network Engineering departments on new technologies, services and design techniques. Serve as technical liaison between National, Divisional and Regional Engineering.
Evaluate new IP / Transport technologies and solutions. Work extensively with vendors on new product requests and problem resolution. Lead efforts to assess impact of new products and technical implementations on our existing infrastructure and take a lead role on various interdepartmental projects. Coordinate testing and divisional certification for new product releases.
Work with National, Divisional and Regional engineering staff to support the strategic planning required for the growth of Comcast’s voice, video and data services. Support budgetary calculations and planning.

Engineering level escalation and support is required. Some travel required, must have a valid driver's license.


EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience and self-study.
- Master's degree a plus.
- Cisco, or other vender certifications a plus.


EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 8 years of service provider network experience.
- Expertise in DWDM optical systems is required.
- Experience with SONET and ATM commercial networks.
- Experience working on new technology trials is required.
- Experience with broadband cable networks is preferred.
- Knowledge of voice and video over IP is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries is required
- Must be a flexible, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential.
