Principal Engineer – Firmware System Product Lead – Orange County, CA



DESCRIPTION:

As lead firmware engineer, you will lead the design, development and delivery of state of the art SSD (Solid State Drive) products for the enterprise market. With prior strong firmware and systems experience in architecting/delivering drive products, you will be responsible for timely delivering highly innovative best in class SDDs.

In this highly technical and hands-on role, essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Driving firmware and systems delivery for an entire product platform from concept to production of the lead customers.
- Guiding the multi-disciplined development teams through complex storage technology challenges such as key technical performance metrics such as IOPS.
- Providing product schedules and delivering to these, using independent judgment to assess project technical status and determine the means to overcome technical problems
- Representing the firmware team and leading the multi-disciplined engineering core team.
- Providing detailed project technical pulse to the management team.
- Assisting the customer teams in initial customer engagements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum 12 years combination of knowledge and experience as follows:
- BSEE / BSCS (or equivalent) and 10 years of experience
- Or MSEE / MSCS (or equivalent) and 8 years of experience

Skills/Experience

- Prior system level and project leadership experience delivering at least 2 products generations, preferably in the storage industry. Strong leadership skills are absolutely required for this role.
- Five years experience within the storage industry and in-depth knowledge of HDD or SDD products from concept to production and field deployment challenges.
- Prior experience with flash management software principles and/or file systems (journaling, wear leveling…etc)
- Prior experience with SoC (System on Chip) firmware development including memory optimization and DDR system challenges.
- Expert embedded firmware skills; including debugging using JTAG based debuggers and logic analyzers.
- Expert level in C programming.
- Understanding of RISC microprocessors; including interrupts scheduling and optimization. Prior product development with at least two embedded microprocessors such as PowerPC, ARC, ARM or equivalent.
- Prior product level experience using modern RTOS for embedded systems.
- Demonstrated experience developing software using structured methodologies, including but not limited to: requirements analysis and capture, design documentation, source code management tools and defect tracking tools.
- Contributed to multiple full lifecycle(s) of software/firmware product development, from concept to production.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly describe and summarize highly technical firmware and/or system challenges.
- Strong engineering aptitude for electronic/electrical systems, including ability to understand schematics as necessary for software/hardware integration.

Desired Skills/Experience

- Working knowledge of NAND flash technologies.
- Understanding of file system IO operation and/or transaction level storage.
- Understanding of RAID, compression and encryption technologies.
