Engineering Manager – Drive Protocols Firmware – Orange County, CA

DESCRIPTION:
As Engineering Manager for the Drive Protocols Firmware team, you will be responsible for all protocols (SAS, FC, SCSI…) development towards our next generation SSD (Solid State Drive) products. With storage protocols expertise, you will be responsible for delivering best in class performance for these protocols.
In this technical and leadership role, with strong communication and team building skills, your responsibilities will include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Planning, developing and managing efforts to ensure the development of multiple, concurrent projects.
- Delivering all drive protocol related firmware technologies (compression, encryption…).
- Determining design direction and methodology for components, subsystems and systems.
- Mentoring, coaching and proactively developing individual career for each engineer.
- Assessing staffing needs and balancing staffing strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Requirements
The successful candidate will have a minimum 12 years combination of knowledge and experience as follows:
- BSEE / BSCS (or equivalent) and 10 years of experience
- Or MSEE / MSCS (or equivalent) and 8 years of experience
Skills/Experience
- Minimum of three years directly managing a team of five or more, including hiring, mentoring, coaching, team building and performance feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and deliver FW development projects with a high degree of commitment adherence.
- Experience in working in a cross-functional team environment with direct participation in core teams across global design centers.
- Track record following and encouraging structured methodologies, including but not limited to: requirements analysis and capture, design documentation, source code management tools and defect tracking tools.
- Contributed to multiple full lifecycle(s) of software/firmware product development, from concept to production; including having been responsible for delivering the corresponding firmware.
- Working knowledge of SCSI protocol(s) (preferably SAS and FC) including a minimum of six years of corresponding product development from initial design to production and field deployment.
- Prior experience analyzing SCSI protocols using corresponding protocol analyzers (LeCroy, Finisar, ITech…)
- Five years or more embedded firmware experience; including debugging using JTAG based debuggers.
- Three or more years experience with storage systems.
- Expert level in C programming.
- Understanding of RISC microprocessors; including interrupts scheduling and optimization. Prior product development with at least two embedded microprocessors such as PowerPC, ARC, ARM or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly describe and summarize highly technical firmware and/or system challenges.
