REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Lead in the research and analysis of health care data to evaluate existing and potential trends/issues.
- Manage and monitor multiple projects by establishing clearly defined project plans and objectives to ensure goal attainment within defined parameters.
- Develop communication methods for the discussion of analyses and recommendations with management.
- Assist management with the implementation of solutions for identified problems/issues.
- Act as a liaison between the Business Intelligence Center and assigned clients.
- Create data repositories for common definitions and reporting.
- Identify and resolve challenges to fulfill key corporate objectives and respond to change management demands.
- Provide expertise and guidance of health care data to unit and corporate staff as required.
- Participate in group/committee discussions and attend client meetings.
- Participate in ongoing data validation to ensure data integrity and reliability.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of requirements determination, data organizational structures, testing approaches, report design and development, relevant health care issues and industry initiatives.
- Maintain a strong understanding of BCBSM business, products, programs (including provider data, networks, etc.), corporate organizational structure, complex research principles/methodologies.
- Good solid understanding of databases, SQL and Health Care data is a must

GENERAL SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE
- Excellent analytical, data management, planning, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent project management and consultative skills.
- Ability to interface with employees at all levels including senior leadership.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently within a team environment.
- Highly proficient in data languages (i.e. SAS, SQL) and industry standard PC applications (i.e. Excel, Access).
- Experience leading others in execution of related activities
- Experience working in a team environment
- Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE -
- Experienced and proficient in using SAS to perform multivariate analysis including regression model building, cluster analysis (e.g. CART, CHAID, Two-Step, etc), and discriminant analysis

EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Health Care, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field is required; Master’s degree preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Possess skills to perform as a team lead for specific projects and/or staff members.
- Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
