Technical Writers – Rockaway, NJ



We have a need for several Technical Writers at the Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, NJ to support an R&D group with preparation of training manuals, technical bulletins and Interactive Electronic technical manuals. These positions are full time and are contracted for two years.


Responsibilities:
Ø Processing engineering information to produce technical operator and maintenance manuals.
Ø Assist in the preparation and editing of technical publications using established procedures and guidelines.
Ø Assist with concept and presentation of written material and illustrations for the publication.
Ø Conduct validation and verification of manuals in shop or field environments.

Requirements:

Software – XML (Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Framemaker

Ø Comprehensive knowledge of grammar, writing, editing, and publishing processes to include electronic publishing concepts, practices, standards, and technologies.
Ø Knowledge of SGML or Comprehensive knowledge of XML in the context of creating printed and electronic documents and/or manuals.
Ø Able to read, modify, and develop XML Document Type Definitions (DTD) and Schemas.
Ø Understanding of XML editing tools such as EPIC and xMetal.
Ø Able to read, modify, and develop style languages such as Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
Ø Past experience with military publication development and/or IETM development is desirable.
Ø Experience with electronic publishing tools such as Interleaf or PageMaker is highly desirable.



Positions are to support a multi-year contract with the government and can either be set up as corp-to-corp, independent contractors or direct hire employees with health and medical benefits, vacation and sick pay and a 401K plan. Compensation is dependent upon type of hire, however is in the range of $25 - $30 per hour. In order to qualify for this position you must be a US CITIZEN and able to carry a Security Clearance.
