The Solution Architect for Enterprise Applications is part of the Architecture and Planning Group that works with the business to develop the requirements for new products and product enhancements for the enterprise, applying technical and systems knowledge to frame and enhance the requirements within systems constraints and capabilities. The group also is responsible for leading the solution design and realization with the platform development group, and for developing and managing the enterprise architecture.
The role is business facing, and works with the development teams in moving the requirements through full definitions into implementation across teams throughout the technical groups in the organization. The Solution Architect also participates in forming, enhancing, promoting, evangelizing and evolving the enterprise architecture and governance in the organization. The role is primarily technical in nature, but involves a high degree of communication and tying to core business processes throughout.
The role will work with a number of packaged and custom applications, integration workflows, distributed systems and various specialized systems in a mixed technical environment, based primarily on Java and .NET platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as technical leader and authority for various software application projects and initiatives as a part of the overall enterprise integration strategy.
Analyze business problems and requirements to determine the appropriate technical solutions that are easy to maintain, deploy and scale.
Participate in strategic planning and development of the enterprise architecture.
Ensure application integration development principles, standards, and best practices are followed for each project.
Research current trends and emerging technologies and provide input on how they may positively or negatively impact the enterprise.
Provide leadership and guidance to software teams and work with the business partners to develop and refine the solution design and requirements on various projects spanning the organization.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
8-10 years of experience in software development.
Proven experience defining and managing customer expectations acting independently and applying broad subject matter expertise.
Solution Architect experience with integrated system design experience and team leadership skills.
Team player, working to develop personal and team skills and abilities for the enterprise.
Broad communication skills from explaining technical concepts to business users through to communicating design approaches to technical teams.
Solid relational database and data modeling experience.
Knowledge and experience with an SOA environment and with developing solutions that fit within the SOA approach of an enterprise.
Design and requirement documentation skills.
Knowledge of and experience with agile development methodologies and approaches.
Proven ability to learn and understand business drivers and market environments in order to support the formulation of a technical roadmap.
Experience with networked and distributed application integration.
