Minimum Requirements:
Solaris/Linux system administrator performs installation, upgrades and configuration of Sun and IBM Enterprise Servers.
Must have TCP/IP networking, NFS and NIS along with UNIX account management, file permissions, security considerations, backup tools and strategies.
Ability to setup and manage common network services, (Apache, BIND, NIS, Sendmail)
Must have a solid understanding of storage area networ, some but not required Veritas foundation suite and some Fiber Channel Switched Fabric and Arbitrated Loop configuration, limitations and benefits of each topology.
Must have an understanding of: topologies, core verses edge, zoning, LUN, logical disk, physical disk, meta volume, hyper volume, archival, SAN/NAS/DAS (pros and cons of each).
Need to know how to write code and script: unix scripts, perl, shell scripts to enable system performance, capacity planning and tuning.
Description:
Individual will be responsible for:
Level two support and problem resolution for engineering
Identify, collect and analyze data for designing and modifying operating environments
Determine server and network architectures to ensure maximum flexibility and capability within NIX systems
Provide technical guidance to support staff to enhance the quality of support and coordinate outside vendor support for level three problem resolution
Evaluate the current environment and develop recommendations and justifications for purchases
Monitors systems performance and resource utilization
Document technical requirements for improving, planning or replacing systems
Will be responsible for ensuring all Solaris/*nix machines are running optimally
Optimizing security and maintenance upgrades
